1865 Coventry Silver Fusee

A near mint solid silver, key-wind English fusee lever pocket watch, and ticking away strongly and comes with a winding key and keeping good time. The watch made in Coventry during the American Civil War period, and a rare fusee watch with crisp clean white dial The watch just cleaned and overhauled by my watch-maker and keeping very good time for a 140 year old goliath sized fusee pocket watch. This watch is an excellent example of high quality traditional work. This is a beautifully made key-wound mans Coventry fusee pocket watch, dating from ca. 1865, from the Victorian period.

 

 

THE DIAL: 100% mint,, the white enamel dial with black Roman numerals and in bright condition with no chips or hairlines. The dial with blue steel spade hands. Diameter is 41 mm. The crystal is also in excellent condition.

 

 

 

 

THE MOVEMENT: 100% mint,with gilt plates and a Bosely regulator, and blue steel screws. An uncut three arm steel balance, with hairspring and club tooth English lever escapement. The movement overall of very good quality and with 11 jewels, and jewelled to balance (diamond end-stone), escape and 3rd wheels. The watch ticking away on my desk as I type this, and keeping very good time for a 140 year old watch. The watch with number 4620 and original gilt dust cover. The watch comes with a winding key for winding and hands set and runs the full length of the fusee chain.

 

 

 

THE CASE: 100%, the solid silver case measures an impressive 48 mm. The front and rear covers are excellent, both are hinged and close nice and tightly. The case with Birmingham hall-marks and silver sterling marks. The case sponsor mark of JH for John Hewitt of 9, Russel Terrace, Chapel Fields, Coventry. The case with worn rose engine turning to the rear cover, and with shield and garter to centre. The inner dust cuvette with engraving around the winding hole.
