A mint and very rare solid silver and Niello work Swiss hunter pocket watch by Buren, fully serviced and overhauled and keeping excellent time. The watch with unusual hunting scene and to the reverse a classic Art Deco floral and leafy work decoration. It is most unusual indeed to find a silver and niello work pocket watch in such fine condition. The watch recently serviced and overhauled by my watch-maker and keeping very good time indeed.
THE DIAL: 100% mint, the white enamel dial with black Roman numerals and in bright condition with no chips or hairlines. The dial with fine blue steel spade hands. Diameter is 41 mm. The original crystal is also in excellent condition and retained securely.
THE MOVEMENT: 100% mint, with patterned 1/2 plate and finely engraved balance cock. A shiny blued steel Bosely regulator, and ruby endstone setting, blue steel screws. An cut three arm gilt balance, with flat hairspring and jewelled to the balance staff and with cylinder escapement and 7 jewels. On the movement top plate, under the dial it is signed by Buren of Switzerland. The hand-set by push-piece at 2.30.
THE CASE: 100% mint, the solid silver case measures an impressive 51 mm outside diameters. The hinges are excellent with the covers closing tightly. The top cover opens when the pendant button is depressed. The watch case with Swiss hall marks and sterling silver marks. The inside rear of the case with solid silver dust cuvette, allowing for viewing of the movemen.
THE NIELLO WORK: 99% mint, the silver and blue niello work top cover with a hunter and his dog and trophy stag in perfect condition. The very fine rear cover with a floral and foliage scene. This watch is shown in Shugart, 24th Edition, on page 605. The case band and bow in fine order. The case stamped for Favre of Le Locle, Switzerland. The watch comes with a new wooden presentation box to store the watch when not in use.
