1919 Silver & Niello Palestine Hunter

A near mint condition silver and niello metal cased, hi-grade Roskopf pocket watch with 11 jewels. This is a beautifully made keyless-wound pocket watch, made in ca. 1917. The watch movement of very nice quality with beautifully gilded plates. This watch with the rare feature of a scalloped case and small presentation plaque to top cover, dated 1917 and from Palestine. The watch recently cleaned and overhauled by my watch-maker and in good order and keeping excellent time



THE DIAL: 100% mint, the white enamel dial with black Roman numerals and in bright condition with no chips or hairlines. The dial with fine gold fancy hands and subsidary  seconds hand. Diameter is 42 mm. The original crystal is also in excellent condition and retained securely.





THE MOVEMENT: 100% mint, with a gilded three quarter plate and a silver steel-regulator, and blue steel screws. An uncut three arm gilt metal balance, with hairspring and Roskopf escapement. The movement overall of very good quality and measure 42 mm. The watch ticking away strongly and keeping very good time. The watch signed, Patent 17445 and Roskopf Regulator. The watch with typical raised winding wheels and fancy cut-out gilded barrel bridge.




THE CASE: 95% mint, the silver and niello case measures an impressive 53 mm. The front and rear covers both close nice and tightly and are both hinged. The top cover hinge has been previously repaired, but is stil strong. The case fully marked with Swiss hall-mark, 800 grade silver and case number of "120,410" The front and rear covers, with nicely scalloped finish to edges.

THE NIELLO WORK: 99% mint, The niello work in excellent conditon, showing minimal loss and still in bright and fresh condition. The top cover central gold plaque inscribed, "Dad from Charlie, Palestine, December 31st, 1917". The top cover with very pretty floral and leaf decoration. The rear cover inset with a lions head to the middel and surrounded by peonies on leafy stalks. The scalloped edges and case band are further inset with niello work. The watch comes with a new wooden presentation box to store the watch when not in use.
