1914 Benson Military Goliath

A very rare hi-grade keyless goliath 8-day pocket watch with a 15 jewelled movement, and made by the Royal Watch-Makers, J. W. Benson of London. The watch dating from ca. 1914-18 period and it is keyless-wind and with an unusual black enamel dial and military arrow. This watch is very clean and is keeping excellent time for a 90 year old watch and just cleaned and overhauled by my watch-maker. This is a beautifully made keyless-wound man's silver-plated 8-day pocket watch , dating from ca. 1914.

THE DIAL: 100% mint, the original black enamel dial with fine white Romannumerals and in bright condition with no hairlines and a chip to dial at edge at 6.00, pretty well covered by the bezel. Dial with spade hands. Diameter is 60 mm and signed Benson and military arrow. The crystal is also in excellent condition.

THE MOVEMENT: 100% mint, with superb gilded plates and keyless set. A silvered steel regulator, and ruby endstone setting, and blued steel screws. The movement jewelled to the balance staff and escape wheel and through the train. The watch is keyless-wind and movement size is 43 mm diameter. The watch is ticking away very strongly and keeping very good time for a 110 year old watch. The movement of attractive and unusual format, and in very clean and good order. The movement with a glass inspection cover, a nich touch and clearly required for military use, to keep dirt and moisture out.

THE CASE: 95% mint, the silver plated case measures 68 mm outside diameter. The front and rear covers are hinged and both close tightly, and the bow is original to the case. The watch case numbered, 782,xxx. The case in crisp condition, with minor scratches commensuare with the age of the watch. The front bezel with minor wear, but barely noticeable. This is a high quality watch, in crisp condition and of fabulous quality. This watch has clearly had a sheltered life and was most likely kept just for "Sunday Best", hence its near mint and immaculate condition.
